The Tumwater Scholarship Fund, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization was established in 1987 by a group of senior parents. They wanted to help students further their education. Scholarship funds were raised through gift wrapping at Capital Mall. Due to decreasing profit margins, the Board decided to take a new approach to fund raising. The first very successful “Taste of Italy” dinner auction, held in 1996, raised over $22,000 for scholarships.
The Board then decided to expand their efforts in order to further benefit all students within the Tumwater School District. This prompted the name change to Tumwater Education Foundation (TEF). The Foundation’s purpose is to provide that “extra measure” of support that contributes to the excellence in Tumwater schools. The foundation is dedicated to providing:

  • A direct means for the community to support unique learning opportunities for individual students.

  • Matching available community resources to current educational needs.

  • Seed money for programs of educational enrichment and scholarships.

  • An endowment for long-term educational support.

  • An opportunity for planned giving.

  • Maximum tax benefits to contributors.
